Glenn and the crew go to Graceland! I
drive to Dayton! I deliver Bob’s paycheck to his wife Beth and then
pop over to Granny’s for a quick chat. Beth told me that Bob phoned
from the road and said that the weather has been HORRIBLE the entire
way. Apparently, the wind is really impossible and it’s been hard to
steer and the rain has been so persistent that it’s difficult to see.
Poor Bob. I wonder if he’ll still speak to me after all this is over.
Beth said that he arrived in Portland okay but felt it best to get on
the road immediately. What a trooper. Bob wants to make it to Dayton
by Friday and of course, the sooner the better for Glenn.
Tried to explain all the tour craziness to my Granny but she couldn’t
keep it all straight. I told her not to try since I can’t either and
I’m living it! After a visit to Granny (and a very sweet financial
grandparent donation to the Amy cause), I drove to my pal Mark and
Tracy’s house and after dinner settled in for the night. Zan and Glenn
called me to tell me that they were going to stay an extra night in
Dayton on Saturday so they could have a hometown night in the Gem City
with Amy! Panic filled my heart since there isn’t much to do in
Dayton. They had three English folks along with them and it’s their
first time in America…I needed to come up with something
quintessentially American and something fun. In Dayton. After feeling
enormous pressure, I suddenly realized that I had been joking with
Glenn about the charisma free nature of Dayton for the past ten years
and I shouldn’t feel responsible for Dayton’s lack of rocking things
to do. Tracy and Mark racked their Buckeye Brains and threw out some
suggestions but I just figured that we could all go out to eat. I love
Dayton but there is a reason why I got the heck out. I can say this
since I was born and raised in Dayton…but if I heard anyone else rag
on the city of neighbors, I’d bitch slap them.
Tracy saved me a local paper called Impact Weekly that had an article
on Glenn and the movie. The article was really lovely except for one
dorky bit….I had mentioned to the reporter that I had never been more
creatively fulfilled. (meaning that the fulfillment was from working
on the movie and website, etc..) The reporter put that quote in right
after he mentioned that I was on the road with Glenn selling shirts
and traveling around, so it came across that I’ve never been more
creatively fulfilled being a roadie! Oh well. There was also a very
sweet thing the reporter mentioned in the article. He mentioned that
he watched the local video show that I was involved in back in the
late 80’s and that it introduced him to alternative music. I was
immensely proud that someone actually watched the show besides my
parents and that they actually dug the music that I programmed. Who
knew? The article was a big one and I’m hoping that it will bring more
people to the show tomorrow night, so it’s all good! Stayed up with
Tracy all night and caught up and laughed. Tracy actually was one of
the creators of South Side Video, (the video show) and was partly
responsible for hiring me as a VJ all those years ago. She has known
me since 1987 and was instrumental in helping me find out what I
wanted to do when I grew up! Collapsed into bed around midnight tired
and happy. The Glenn gig is tomorrow! Yay!
