Hey
Glennmovie readers!
Hope all of you are well and having a
groovy winter! I won’t tell you about the great
weather
we’ve been having in Los Angeles. It's lovely here on the left side
but I've busted out my romper/kitty suit for the chilly California
evenings! Well, plenty of news to tell from the
One For the Road camp: The movie is FINISHED! My editor
Jeff and I are just adding the finishing touches... little tweaks to
the flick but the donkey work is done and I’m extremely proud of the
results. We’ve had to subtitle Glenn throughout since us yanks find
him hard to understand! His mumbling and rambling are a bit confusing
so I thought it best to subtitle him. The feedback I’ve had so far
about the documentary has been extremely positive and I’m very, very
excited about getting the movie out there to people. It’s not going to
blaze a cinematic trail of genius, but I definitely think people will
know Glenn a bit better and appreciate his talent. And, who can ask
for more than that?
The plan for the movie remains the
same: I’m going to enter it into film festivals and have it shown
around the world for the next year, then try and sell it to television
(BBC, are you listening?) and then
ultimately, release it on DVD chock full of all the extra goodies I
was unable to include in the final version of the film. Remember I’m a
Squeeze fan just like you
guys and I wanted to hear practically all of the songs in their
entirety! But I wanted to make this movie for the general public as
well and not just the hardcore fan base so I had to make some tough
decisions. Keep your fingers crossed, as “One
For the Road” is unleashed in 2004! Check out our new merchandise page
with added holiday treats such as
Xmas cards,
ornaments and a few
other cheeky items! I won't spoil the surprise, but let's just say
that nothing conveys the spirit of the independent filmmaking
community and the holiday season like a festive
thong! Go forth and
purchase and all proceeds will now go to our film festival fund. Every
film festival that we apply to not only asks for an entry fee, you
must FedEx the submission via
registered (expensive) mail! I had to buy the
ornament for my tree!
Speaking of all this film festival
talk, we heard from Sundance today and we didn't get in. You can go to
the link www.sundance.org and
click on the film festival
and see the
announcements of who got in. You will find
my name missing from the list! If
only Glenn had been a member of the
Symbionese Liberation Army
(link currently not working)
or if he'd been on
Death Row, we might have had a chance! Alas, the
glennmovie did not make the cut for this
year's Sundance. I
wouldn't call it unexpected, but hey, I consider it a victory to have
entered and I'm positive that the flick will get into the fun (perhaps
better suited?)
festivals like South By Southwest
in Austin and such. Methinks my documentary is a tad whimsical for
Sundance if you check out
some of the titles.
But never fear, just because
Bob Redford's posse didn't dig the flick doesn't mean I'll stop
trying to spread the Glenn love! Perhaps I'll start my own film
festival and call it 'Shmundance' ... featuring only
documentaries about musicians and their RV's! Anyway, thanks to all
who had fingers crossed... you can uncross them now!
In other news, my mates in the band
MINIBAR are playing London’s
12 Bar Club on December 18th.
I took Glenn to see them a few years back and he loved them so I’d
love it if you could drop by and experience their heavenly harmonies,
their excellent musicianship and their fabulous songwriting! You’ll
have a bit of Southern California rock to warm your cockles whilst in
icy cold London! I saw many a gig at the
12 Bar when I lived in London
and wish I could be there for the gig but you guys need to go down and
represent! It’s a tiny place so buy your tickets early!
Now I hope all of you are sitting
down since I have some news! I am now gainfully employed! Yes, with
the completion of the movie, I found myself not really needing to
focus on 'One For the Road' as much. so I
got myself a job. I am an Associate Producer for the Jack Osbourne
show “Union Jack” which airs on
Channel 4 in the UK on Sundays at 12:55pm. Tune in if you like
that sort of laddy, schoolboy humour! You might even catch me in a few
episodes in the background! I’m having a great time and the people I
work with are fantastic and it reminds me of the old days when I
worked in telly in Britain. I’m the only American on the crew and I’m
having a blast. After working non-stop on the movie for two years and
having my confidence shattered; not knowing if the decisions I was
making were the right ones since I was doing it by myself for the
first time, it’s great to just go into work at 10, do my job, do it
well, get positive feedback and then go home at 6 - leaving the job
behind! And the joy of a steady paycheck is one that I thought would
be elusive for many months to come so I’m loving life in a big way as
we approach the end of 2003. I've been a bit solitary in the last two
years and am looking forward to spreading the
glennmovie love in the coming year.
Glenn’s currently on tour in the UK
and I hope all of you are getting a chance to experience the Glenn
love firsthand. Enjoy a ‘Cheers then!’ for me while you’re there!
We’re going to add some new things to the website and will let you
know of all the groovy changes. I’m currently working on a proper
version of the movie poster and will let you know how that’s going!
I’m also hoping to publish a companion book to the movie and have been
busy working on that in my spare time. I want to take this time out to
thank you all for all of your support. Thanks for signing up on my
mailing list and for
emailing your best wishes. I always enjoy hearing
from you. After all, you have excellent taste in music! Why wouldn’t
I?! I hope all of you have a happy and safe holiday season and I
really hope to see all of you in 2004 when my movie will hopefully be
screened in your area! Keep your eyes on the website as we’ll keep you
updated on all the latest news! Thanks again.
Cheers Then!
Amyx
