Happy Summer!
I've returned home to LA from what
seems like a lifetime on the road and wanted to check in to say hooty
hoot!
Check out our
screenings page for the latest
showings of the glennmovie. Sadly, I will
not be attending the fantastic
Filmstock
International Film Festival, but that shouldn't stop you guys over
in the UK from trekking down (or up and over) to
Luton for the big event on June 10th! Now don't hold back-singing,
clapping and laughing out loud is to be encouraged. And if you're
going, take lots of digital photos and
email them
to me! I'd love to see them! Don't be so reserved for heaven's
sake! As far as I know, Glenn is unable to attend the festival but
isn't it fun to imagine him popping by in his RV?
There will also be a
screening in
Tokyo,
which I'm sure all of you will be jetting over for! Speaking of Japan,
The
Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook is coming out there (if it hasn't
already) and it features none other than a trailer from
GT: OFTR! And, on the back page of
TIGT CD booklet, you will find our lovely movie poster listing our
glennmovie.com website! Now this is the
sort of cross promotion a gal like me has been waitin' for! Oh, the
squeal of delight that yelped out when I got the CD in the mail and
saw the movie poster in Glenn's solo album! I have no idea what the
Japanese writing on the poster says, for all I know it could say
"Glenn eats cheese!", but I was just inordinately excited to see the
movie poster with foreign scrawl on it. Perhaps I need to get out
more.
The big news here in
glennmovie land is the lovely
brand, spankin' movie posters now available for a limited time only! And,
speaking of scrawl, they have Glenn's signature on them! I caught up
with Glenn and the Fluffers at his Lexington, KY date last month and
got him to autograph a limited number of posters. Dig if you will, a
picture: Glenn was sitting outside of the very club he was to 'rock
out' later whilst smoking a ciggie. Beer on the table, smoke in one
hand, black Sharpie marker in the other, he proceeded to lovingly sign
each poster with care. (Well, a few of the posters have the edge
curled a bit due to tricky navigation of beer/smoke/pen action, but it
will frame up nicely.)
It was lovely to see Glenn's new
fancy tour bus with festive lighting from the Cruisemaster! Rather
fantastically, the festive lighting went across the ceiling and down
into the
loo. You can't ask for more than that: twinkly wee accompaniment!
The Fluffers were in tip top form and boy does Stephen rock the keys.
If you haven't seen Glenn and the Fluffers live, you gotta get out and
experience them onstage in person!!! Lucy is a bad ass on the bass and
it's a joy to watch. Sadly, Glenn isn't going to be over in the US
until next year, but the folks in the UK and Japan have much Glenn Gig
love to look forward to!
My hometown screening in Dayton was a
blast. My 87 year old Granny turned up and was delighted with the
movie! Some of you might remember a few years back, when the
Cruisemaster and Glenn were reunited in Dayton on Mother's Day and we
parked the RV in my Granny's driveway whilst stocking up for the
continuation of the tour. Granny kindly offered to do the laundry of
the Glenn posse and was quite perplexed at the concept of a 'thong',
when she held it up to me and asked, "What is this and how do I fold
it?". Makes me laugh at the memory. After the movie, Granny came out
and I asked her if the movie confounded her at all. (I mean, there's a
bit in the middle of the movie where Glenn rocks the acoustic in a
blazing, six minute version of
Hendrix's "Voodoo Child". How can she
dig that?) My Granny said, 'Don't be silly! I thought it was
WONDERFUL!! And to think, I washed his underwear!" I had forgotten all
about my Granny laundering Glenn's smalls, but there you go. She's got
a better memory than I do! And no, it wasn't Glenn's thong that she
held up. Granny laughed in all the right places and it was worth it to
screen the movie in Dayton for her reaction. I've never seen her so
happy. My mom and Doug came from Chicago to see the flick as well as
old friends from high school! Former co-workers Andy and Dan turned up as well as
many other pals. It was truly a blast. The turnout was a bit less than
hoped for, but I was told by the very sympathetic manager of the movie
theatre that the day of the screening was the first nice day in Dayton
in a long, cold winter and the last thing people want to do is go
inside to see a flick about a guy they never heard of. Fair enough,
but I was bummed because I worked really hard at trying to get as much
PR as possible for the movie. One thing that did make me laugh was
that the local Dayton 'alternative' newspaper didn't even mention the
movie. How alternative is that?? So alternative that they don't bother
to mention the rare occurrence of a Daytonian filmmaker's flick showing
at the only art theatre in town. I love it! I love that when the movie
showed in London, the BBC wanted to interview me and I can't even get
any love from a local yokel Dayton paper. However, the
Dayton Daily
News ran a lovely piece and picture in the paper advertising the
movie. Out of everyone who attended the screening, I knew or was
related to all but about five and was told that three of those five
weren't even from Dayton and had driven from Cincinnati, Columbus, and
Indianapolis to attend. Bless them! All in all a thoroughly enjoyable
day was had by all. (just not by many!) Or as Glenn once said to me,
describing a sparsely attended gig, "Those that attended had a GREAT
time!" haha
I'm currently talking with a few
companies regarding releasing the movie on DVD and will of course,
announce any possible good news on the site, but in the meantime,
check the screenings page for future screenings in a town near you, or
even far away from you! Hoping to have some screenings in LA,
Minneapolis, Annapolis (if their film festival accepts the flick-feel
free to email them) and a few other cities. Screenings cost money and
that's why I've put some of the posters up for sale. So if you're down
with the cause, feel free to hop over to the
merch page!
Also, please note that I added a very
important link on the links page:
Andy Metcalfe's website! You might
remember Andy as a former member of Squeeze, former producer of Glenn,
former bass player in the Soft Boys and Robyn Hitchcock's Egyptians
and current bessie mate of mine! Well, he's the current amazing
guitarist in his own little Bluegrass combo "Buffalo Smoke". They are
planning on several UK dates coming up and this ain't your momma's
bluegrass! Please go to
Buffalo Smoke's website and check them out.
You can also download some MP3's of their music for a nice little
sample and they always like to throw in an unconventional cover or two
in their set, which makes for a knee slappin' yee-hawin' good time!
Andy is one of the top flat pickers in the UK (she said proudly) and
you really should check his band out. Good times!!!
Enjoy the summer fun and I'll see you
on the flip side.
Rock On,
Amyx
