Got
to sleep in today since it is a day off and our drive is only a few
hours to Kansas City. Glenn bounded out of bed to go scour Sauget
for signs of interesting life and electric leads and technical things
while Suzanne and I caught up on our beauty sleep. Glenn returned
to tell me that he went to a porn shop which shocked me. Why on earth
would Glenn go to a porn shop at 10am in Sauget, IL? Sensing my reaction
(and judgment), Glenn giggled and informed me that he went to a pawn
shop...P-A-W-N...not P-O-R-N...I thought he said porn due to his accent.
Ooops.
We
leisurely drove to Kansas City, stopping off at an outlet mall, an
overrated cheese store and a hilariously bad roadside Elvis museum.
There were only a few items worthy of the museum tag and many more
items worthy of throwing in the bin. Stop off at the Elvis museum
and wonder at Lisa Marie's children's stroller! A broken plastic guitar
with an Elvis postcard taped to the bottom of it for the low price
of $49.95! The museum is built on the premise that Elvis is definitely
alive and they gave very 'valid' reasons why. I took a few photos
of Glenn in Elvis sunglasses and standing next to the casket with
a fake very brown looking plastic Elvis. There was an Elvis impersonator
inside who had the Elvis-speak down pat, including the thank-ya-very-much
bit. As we left, we heard the guy ask the lady next to him if she
thought the gold Elvis sunglasses would look good with his jumpsuit.
When Elvis Impersonators ATTACK!
We
are staying in a rather groovy part of Kansas City and decided to
walk to a restaurant for dinner. I must admit to feeling a bit sorry
for Glenn as we faced a rather steep hill, but he managed to crutch
along like a trooper. Enjoying the warm weather (for the first time
since Portland), we sat outside and had a lovely meal. A reporter
from Dayton phoned me to talk about the documentary and Glenn's impending
gig there so I excused myself from the table to talk to him. (I was
too embarrassed to talk about Glenn in front of Glenn!) It was a nice
day today...no schedule to keep to, a nice sleep the night before
and everyone was in a relaxed mood. Lovely!
So,
what's the story with the RV you may ask? Well...pull up a barstool.
The
RV is still in Portland, Oregon and will be fixed by this Friday,
the 3rd. We have been trying to get Hans, my lovely cameraman for
the documentary, to fly to Portland and then drive the RV to meet
us in the Midwest. Because Hans is due to be a daddy any day now,
he can't take on the RV challenge. I can't drive it by myself because...well,
I just can't. I can't read a map at the best of times AND handle a
27 foot vehicle on my own. Suzanne could handle it on her own (because
she's much more tough than me) but not for the whole distance and
she can't be away from her managerial duties that long either. So,
I thought I'd call my friend Tim Walker, English guitarist in the
fantastic band MiniBar, to see if he was around and available
to help me drive the RV across the country.
I
love MiniBar and you should too....I took Glenn to see them
play the last time he was in LA and he agreed. Check them out on www.minibar.co.uk.
Anyhoo, Tim is available (only just) but he's playing a gig on the
3rd and can't fly into Portland until the 4th. I'll leave the tour
in Iowa City and fly to Portland on the 3rd to get the RV ready to
go for Tim's arrival. That leaves us only 3 days to get to Glenn in
Chicago since I need to be in Chicago for his show. My co producer/investor/pal
Tom has never met Glenn or Suzanne and I wanted to arrange some quality
time! Can Tim and I drive the RV 2,127 miles in 3 days? Can we get
Tim back to San Diego in time for his MiniBar gig on May 9th? Will
the RV be purring like a kitten and restored to its once, former GLORY?
We shall see. I can guarantee that I won't be able to write any entries
after Iowa City for a bit since I'll be on the RV but will let you
know how the gig tonight goes.
Rock
On,
Amyx
p.s. Everyone
keeps asking me when they can get a copy of the movie, the short answer
is not for a year or so. We want to take the doc around to film festivals,
then to TV outlets worldwide then we'll see about making it available
to the public. Thanks!
