Hello and Happy Anniversary to
www.glennmovie.com!
Funny how time flies, eh? Last year at this time, we were preparing
for the launch of the site and for Glenn’s upcoming spring tour and
the movie wasn’t finished. Sigh. Sadly, there is no spring tour to
look forward to (well, in the US at least.), the site is up and
running and lovingly time consuming and uh… the movie isn’t finished.
It seems lately that there are few certainties in life. A few I can
think of are taxes, death, and the never-ending quest of trying to
finish this movie. As I was diligently passing out
glennmovie.com flyers at an Elvis
Costello show here in LA last week, I began to flyer the already
flyer-ed from past Elvis shows! I was met with the same enthusiasm for
Glenn and his latest projects as well as a cheerful, “Haven’t you
finished the movie yet? You were still working on it last year when
you gave me a flyer!” My only answer was and is, “I’m trying!” We'll
get there one glorious day... soon!
I wanted to do something fun and special for the anniversary of the
website so you will find a new, exciting merchandise page!
Every penny of the proceeds from your donations to the groovy
One for the Road gear will go towards
completing the movie and hopefully, we can get the flick done by
Summer 2003! That is my goal. Last year at this time, I thought I’d
be done by now. Hey, we live and learn! I’m still in the midst of
transcribing and writing the script, but once that is done, I’m hoping
the editing process will be jiffy quick. (4-6 weeks I’m assuming.) The
mere thought of having One For The Road
completed in 4-6 weeks makes me salivate but of course, we’ll keep you
posted on the progress.
I also decided to post a bit of the movie on the
trailers page. I feel that the
glennmovie fans have waited ever so
patiently and kindly and should be given a wee glimpse of what I’ve
had the pleasure (and sometimes pain) of perusing for the past year
and a half! Hope you all dig it in spite of its roughness.
I also need your help. I'm looking for ANY photos of any of Squeeze's
three appearances at Madison Square Garden! If you have any footage
(did anyone sneak in a cheeky video camera? Well, it was the 80's... I
doubt if a video camera was small enough to sneak in back in the day)
or photos (I'm looking for any or all shots), please email them to me
at the address listed on the HELP US
page. I will absolutely return them in the condition that I received
them. I'm also looking for ticket stubs/pictures of the MSG
marquee/ANYTHING. I already contacted MSG and their official
photographer but they have nothing. Thought I'd ask the fans out there
and see if there's a chance of getting anything. Or does anyone know
if there was a local news crew/local paper's photographer there? I'm
still investigating but need help! Thanks!
In other news: Elvis Costello’s show last week at UCLA was an
inspiring low-key affair. I referred to the show as “Elvis goes to
Church”. A few highlights I can remember: Indoor Fireworks, Almost
Blue, Man Out of Time, I Wanna Be Loved, Tart, Spooky Girlfriend,
Dust, God Give Me Strength, a gospel version of That Day is
Done, a stunningly haunting rendition of So Like Candy (one
of my all time faves!) and a very appropriate, profound
Shipbuilding. He closed with What’s so Funny About Peace, Love
and Understanding which brought a fist pumping crowd to their
feet! I was so inspired that I felt the need to share my warm feelings
with the man himself! I met and rapped with Elvis years and years ago
in Ohio and later in London a few times backstage and always felt that
I shouldn’t pester him anymore than I have to. I got my autographed
poster, which is hanging on my wall, why bug him again?! What could I
possibly say to him that he would really care to hear?
Well, I was loved up on this occasion and nabbed him as he was quickly
moving through the backstage throng. Accompanying me was my pal Katie
Puckrik, who Elvis recognized and he stopped to chat. Katie then said,
to my horror, “Hey Elvis, you know Amy!”. I then snapped, “You DON’T
KNOW ME! I know Pete. You might have seen me at a million other shows
stalking you from time to time, but you don’t know me. I know Pete.”
Oh my god… the look of confusion on Elvis’ face makes me cringe at the
memory. I then said, ‘I’m Amy. Hi.” He was looking over our shoulders
to friends that he was intent on greeting and I just grabbed him and
said, “Look, I know you have to go mingle but I just wanted to say….”
And then he very politely, focused his attention on me (the pressure
was on!) “… I-just-wanted-to-
say-that-you-fill-my-heart-with-love-and-joy-and-
your-show-made-me-very-happy. BYE!” As I started to sprint off, (a bit
like hitting a boy you had a crush on in seventh grade and then
running away!) he thanked me and shook my hand. I got very red faced
and then lamented to Katie that I felt stupid but she insisted that I
maintained what was left of my dignity. Elvis had very soft hands too.
I wanted to tell him about the doc and stuff but it was hardly the
hang time to do so. Oh well. At least now Elvis might be able to
identify me in a police line-up of psycho fans! It’s all good!
Well, everyone, have a lovely Spring and I will keep you posted on the
progress of One For The Road. On our website’s anniversary, I would
like to give a big thanks to John Pickard, my brother who was
instrumental in launching this darn thing thanks to his artistic
genius and technical know how. I’d also like to thank Jacob Ellis, my
current web genius who has worked tirelessly on the
merch page, updates and maintenance
without pay! I’d also like to thank the following for their kind
donations that helped pay for equipment and tape stock and other
stuff. (Don’t worry, you’ll get your name in the movie credits, I just
wanted to thank you here as well!):

And a big hooty hoot, springtime

handsome individuals who are on the OFTR
mailing list. There are nearly 1000 of you out there if you can
believe it! What can I say? You have great musical taste and I heart
you for it. Now get outta here before I get all sentimental, you crazy
kids! I’ve got something in my eye… sniff sniff….
Rock On,
Amyx
